Poland program

Choice and Number of Children

No choice limitation other than availability. Polish adoption Programs offers healthy children of all ages. The youngest would be approx. 1 year old . Also, waiting for placement are sibling groups and children with special needs. Adoption of more then one child at the same time does not carry any extra expenses.

Children's Health Considerations

Before a child is allowed to immigrate to the United States, there are two medical examinations to assure that the child is physically and mentally healthy. One is conducted by the Public Orphanage, the second one is conducted by the physician or a panel of physicians appointed by the U.S. embassy in Warsaw. Polish orphanages have levels of care ( facilities, medical personnel) that are far superior than those in the former Soviet Union, Rumania or the Baltic States. You could be provided with information on the child's background and medical history before you make a decision. The possibility of finding a children with fetal alcohol syndrome are extremely rare and I have never heard of children with HIV disease being adopted from Poland.

Parents Age

No age limitations. However, if you want to adopt a child or children under the age of four, the parents age should not exceed 44 unless you intent to adopt a sibling group.

Travel requirements

Parents do have to travel and bring the child into their country of origin. Polish law requires that the adopting parents come to Poland to meet the child before the adoption petition is submitted to the Guardian Court.

Applicants

Married couples and single applicants can be considered. Prospective adoptive applicants need not be of Polish descent, but ties to Poland may, in some cases, be a favorable factor.
